SAFE SOSS three-step ember protection system now available in 50 select stores and online at Lowes.com
Ventura County, Calif., (Nov. 18, 2025) – SAFE SOSS, a wildfire defense system developed by professional wildland firefighter, has launched in Lowe’s stores across wildfire-prone regions and is available for nationwide shipping at Lowes.com. The three-step Block, Seal, Defend system addresses wind-borne embers, which account for up to 90% of home losses during wildfires.
Nicholai Allen, Founder of SAFE SOSS, who has served on federal wildfire incidents and continues to respond on the fireline, began developing the system after the 2018 Woolsey Fire impacted his family. The product line offers homeowners practical tools to protect properties from embers that can travel more than a mile ahead of fire fronts.
Three-step Protection System
The SAFE SOSS product system provides a layered defense against the leading cause of structure loss during wildfires. Each component addresses specific vulnerabilities identified through Allen’s firefighting experience, field testing, and observation.
The system includes three products:
- Step 1: Block. Universal Ember Guard Carbon Filter installs behind vents to help block embers and filter smoke through phosphate-infused activated carbon.
- Step 2: Seal. High-Heat Ember Guard Tape seals gaps around exterior doors, vents and roof junctions with heat-resistant fiberglass (the same material used for most fire blankets).
- Step 3: Twice Over Wildfire Risk-Reduction Spray connects to garden hoses to coat wood, mulch and vegetation with clear, eco-friendly phosphate formula.
Addressing Preparedness Needs
The products feature extended shelf lives designed for advance preparation. The spray can be stored at the ready for five years, while the tape remains usable for up to 10 years when stored properly. The carbon filters install year-round and provide air quality benefits during smoke events from nearby or distant fires.
Allen developed the system after previous work in consumer goods development left him seeking products that addressed genuine unmet needs. SAFE SOSS emphasizes education alongside product use, encouraging homeowners to maintain defensible space and evacuate early when conditions warrant.
Retail Launch and Expansion
SAFE SOSS products are available exclusively in select Lowe’s stores located in wildfire-prone areas or for nationwide shipping at Lowes.com. A store locator is available on the SAFE SOSS website. The company plans additional initiatives including home assessment programs and defensible-space support, staffed by wildland firefighters and a campsite fire safety program placing buckets at more than 3,500 campsites nationwide to prevent camp fires from becoming wildfires.
The products are designed to complement defensible space practices recommended by CAL FIRE, NFPA and Ready for Wildfire programs. With this launch, SAFE SOSS keeps on growing their mission to provide supplemental defense tools for deployment before fire season and Red Flag warnings.
